BackWeb Adds Symantec Corporation as Defendant in its Patent Infringement Lawsuit

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 22, 2009 - BackWeb Technologies Ltd. (Pink Sheets: BWEBF or BWEBF.PK) announced today that it has amended the patent infringement lawsuit it filed on March 20, 2009 in the United States District Court in San Francisco, California, to include Symantec Corporation as an additional defendant in the action BackWeb initially filed against Microsoft and subsequently against Sybase Inc. and its subsidiary iAnywhere. BackWeb is seeking damages, an injunction and a declaration by the Court that Symantec's software products infringe BackWeb's patents.

BackWeb alleges the Symantec Altiris product infringes three U.S. patents owned by BackWeb covering methods for transmitting information between a remote network and a local computer. The lawsuit against Microsoft alleged infringement of the same three patents, as well as a fourth BackWeb patent. The Symantec Altiris product is used by companies for centrally managing IT infrastructures.

Bill Heye, CEO of BackWeb, commented, "As we have stated previously, BackWeb has developed significant communications technology and intellectual property since our founding in 1995, and we are pursuing these companies that we believe are infringing our technology."

BackWeb is being represented in this matter by Hosie Rice LLP (www.hosielaw.com), a San Francisco law firm that focuses on intellectual property litigation. A copy of the amended complaint, which contains more details on the patents, is available in the news section of the BackWeb web site at http://www.backweb.com/news-events/.
